My Mom Died Last Night

My mother passed away last night after being found unresponsive in her hospital room on Monday night.  For legal reasons, I cannot go into details as to what happened, but I thought I’d share this poem that describes to a “T” how she lived her life I found in the hospital’s cafeteria.  It was written by Brian Tracy, and I intend to recite it at her funeral (likely to be this weekend).  Once the obituary has been written and published, I’ll post a copy of it here, and if possible, link to it.

As always, thoughts and prayers would be greatly appreciated.  Here’s the poem, titled “Change the World”.

You cannot change the world,
But you can present the world with one
Improved person - Yourself.
You can go to work on yourself and make
Yourself into the kind of person you admire
And respect.
You can become a role model and set a
standard for others.
You can control and discipline yourself to
resist acting or speaking in a negative way
toward anyone for any reason.
You can always insist upon doing things the
loving way.
By doing these things each day,
You can continue on your journey Towards
Becoming an exceptional human being.

  10. Dan bro how did you build this blog externally off of your main index???/ can one be added to my website???/ it is me Aaron111 from DP forums

  11. I know who you are, Aaron. To answer your question, I changed the default “uncategorized” category name to “writing” and then hid it. Every visible category you see in the sidebar is a child of that category. For the main page, I just hacked the theme’s index.php file.

  12. Oh, and before I misplace my manners, thanks for the kind words everybody. :)

  13. Hey Dan, came off your DP link to your last blog, was hoping that it was a joke, sorry sorry to hear about your mom, it’s hard losing a loved one, just rest easy knowing she’s in a better place. Take care and be strong.

  14. Nope. No joke. Her funeral cost $15,649.36 and was held on August 1st at Wisconsin Memorial Park Cemetary in Brookfield, WI. I’ve got pictures and a video of the funeral service, but I haven’t edited any of them yet.

  15. aside of the all the funeral arrangement’s….. what would be the price for a low cost blog like this … it looks like you use sitepoint free blog software unless im wrong …. in case …. sorry for off topic …. but an honest reply could do … *|:) I basically need one attached to my handyman blog for clients to post testimonials….

  16. SitePoint doesn’t have its own free blog software. It uses WordPress for its blogging system - the same thing I do here (in fact, the whole site is run off of WordPress).

  17. Dan can you atleast offer a quote for what it cost to put up a blog like that one or so …. :applaud: :whacko:

  18. I can if you send me an email explaining what you want the blog to have in detail. :deal:

(Otherwise you’ll be subjected to my “New Client Needs Analysis Form” - which will cause me to learn more about you and your planned Web site than even you thought could be possible. >:D }:) >:D )

  19. Very sorry to hear about your loss.. please accept my condolences… May your mom rest in peace..

  20. sorry dan, my hearty condelances to u and ur family

  21. Hi Dan,

Feeling very sorry for your loss. May your mom’s soul rest in peace.

Even I know the loss of a loved one as one of my close friend’s mom passed away last year.

    Sorry again.

  22. Hi Dan,
I haven’t looked in for a while and was shocked to read about your mother passing away. Words seem inadequate somehow at times like these, but know that my thoughts are with you. The world probably seems a very dark place at the moment; but slowly the sunshine will return, I promise you. Keep well my friend.

    Chris

  23. Hi Dan, I really enjoy your posts on DP, it amazes me how some people don’t listen to your great advice. I do SEO for a living, but I am not quite as good as you yet.

Anyway, my mum died at the age of 53 a few days ago, its more difficult than i thought.

  24. My deepest condolence to you and your family. I’ve lost a father and I know how painful it is to see someone who introduced us the world gone. Your mother’s memories will live in your heart.

[Note from Dan: You agreed to my comment policy; please don't use SEO keywords in the username field again. *|:) ]

  25. I`am sorry to hear that dan..

And may your mother rest in peace :)

  26. I hate to comment late - but I hate not to comment either.

Just landed on your blog through DP - and wanted to extend my condolences.

    Bert
