Block Internet Explorer 8 With the IE 8 Blocker Toolkit

Microsoft has announced the launch of the Internet Explorer 8 Blocker Toolkit, a tool designed to prevent Internet Explorer 8 from being installed on your computer or network. If you’re wondering what operating systems will support IE 8, they are:

  • Windows Vista 32bit and 64bit
  • Windows XP SP2 and above
  • Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2003 SP2 and above

The toolkit has no expiration date and will work by either configuring the registry file or using group policies in domain joined environments. However, if you used the IE 7 Blocker toolkit to prevent Internet Explorer 7 from being installed, you will have to use the the IE 8 version to block Internet Explorer 8 from your Windows PC or network. Also, if you have already installed the Internet Explorer 8 beta or attempt to manually download and install IE 8, this won’t work either. And finally, if you use an update system like Windows Server Update Services or Systems Management Server 2003, you won’t need to use this since those services automatically allow you to control what software gets installed and updated on your network.

  3. Thanks, Blake. It’s actually written poorly by my standards - I just wanted to get the word out as soon as possible. @p?

I have something much better cooking in the oven right now - something that our do-nothing Congress has actually managed to get right. :brew:

Hope you like copyright law, because this is going to be a doozie. :deal:
